11/12 Panini Rookie Anthology Video Review

Here's another video review! Again, huge thanks go out to Panini for providing this box for review. For a more in depth written review of Rookie Anthology, check my official review of the product found a few posts below this one.

As I stated in the last few Panini reviews, I have really seen Panini step up their game in their products. To be totally honest, I always preferred Upper Deck products to Panini's. If Panini keeps this up I'll definitely have to re-think that thought. What have you seen from Panini that has shown you that they have stepped up their cardboard efforts? For me, I think Titanium and Rookie Anthology have been outstanding products in terms of value and satisfaction. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

  1. i really like this product, the cards look really good. Adding rookies from other products is a nice touch, but it make my job of completing those sets a whole lot more challenging! I was thinking about busting some Titanium next, but I think I'm going to give rookie anthology a shot first. Thanks for the review.

  4. Love the cards, Panini is really impressing me so far. Adding the updated rookie is a big plus for all the fans who want to collect those new rookies that weren't in previous products! I think the only think they could do better is add a few more hits instead of the low end pinnacle rookies.

  5. In my opinion, I think Panini has really stepped up their game this year. A year ago I didn't like Panini because their products such as Donruss, Limited & Certified kinda disappointed me. This year they've had many solid products like Crown Royale, Titanium, Contenders, Rookie Anthology & Elite. I enjoy busting Panini boxes more than UpperDeck boxes now, which is very unusual because I love breaking Series One & Black Diamond. I'm looking forward to Prime coming out, hopefully it's just as great as their recent products!

  6. I was excited for Paninis new products. Especially Titanium. I and other are to believe that Titanium was a huge hit with Collectors. The idea of the true rookies in titanium got collectors excited. Im believing that Panini is listening to the community and has made their products so much better than before. Horrible back in 10-11 they've turn Luxury suite around which to me makes me think they are trying to produce something collectors will enjoy. Now lets hope Prime is as good as titanium.

  7. they really improved the look of the base in both products and i love the titanium i like the bonus pack in rookie anthology but i don't like what you get in the other packs its usually just pinnacle rookie kinda cheep for a $99 box of cards - Ulitimatesportsfan19 (YouTube)

  9. I really like titanium but i am not as big on rookie anthology. I think that its a good concept but i find it a little boring compared to titanium. i do, however, think that the base cards look really nice and i think that panini as stepped their game up bigtime.

  10. I believe the secret to Panini's recent success is the fact that the individual boxes have been more consistent, with some pretty good hits in every box rather than awful dry boxes and super hot boxes. I actually think I'm going to pass on this stuff and save my money for Prime. It is pretty nice, though.

  11. Panini, Upperdeck, In The Game, Topps, whatever the company it is, I've collected from all and I'm not going to praise Panini more so over any other company. Yeah they're starting to put out a bunch of new products, so good on them to keep the collectors buzzing with interest, but whatever. I'm not goin out buying boxes just because it's from Panini. I'm buying them because it's a new product, that's it.

  12. IMO. as of late im starting to prefer panini products, why.. because it the most simple, and eye appealing product. the base cards have been quite clean looking , and inserts/auto/jersey is also very sleek. the only downside, of course.. sticker autos.. BUT.. thats with every card company. thanks for the review, again luke, A+ job as always :)

  13. Panini has really stepped up there game this year, they really seem to take what collectors have said to heart. They seem to have had alot more on card autos and multi color patches then in past years. I hope this is a sign of good things to come in the future and Panini will one day be the best card company around.

  14. First off, I love the concept. Certainly reminds me of the old rookie update boxes Upper Deck and ITG have done in the past. I think this concept is one that works, of course it would be awesome if every pack was a hit but fact is if they did that they would have to seriously jack the price or ruin the value of the cards.

I personally don't mind the balance of Pinnacle and other higher end stuff and the bonus pack is also an excellent idea. I think I will try and get a box of this! Great review, I give the product an 8.5/10, mainly because I LOVE rookies!!

  15. I totally agree with you when you say that Panini has in fact stepped up their efforts to improve their cards tremendously. The value is really good and the thing I like most that they are doing right is including very good looking pieces of game used on the cards, especially in this years Titanium. The patches are ridiculous; no more one solid color patch, its more like hello 3 color patch. The cards also have better designs and I too might have to switch over to Panini instead of Upper Deck if they keep up the good work. thesabresfan3636 (youtube)

  17. I agree with you in the sense that I have always preferred Upper Deck for hockey, but Panini is really starting to give them a run for their money. Panini is starting to create very unique designs and ideas for their products, such as Rookie Anthology, which alot of collectors respect for it allows them to complete their set of 11/12 rookies! I personally would have LOVED to have that set last year, but we can't win em all! The one thing that has always turned me off about Panini however, is there lack of patches. Instead they decided that they wanted to use "PRIME" Jerseys, which I absolutely hate personally. Panini has come a long way so far, but they still have some way to go if they want to pass the hobby giant Upper Deck!

  20. I still really love upperdeck because of there good products like getting future watch autos and most of their patches are better looking I think panini has to step up their game by putting nicer patches in their products and putting more auto in their products Jonathantoewsfan19

  24. I think Panini has stepped up their game with hockey cards by adding more hits and numbered cards. Yet have also made set collecting harder (which I good for those who like a challenge) for example rookies numbered to their jsy numbers in titanium or adding rookies from different sets in anthology. Although panini has done a great job with their hits and inserts, their base design lacks the 'wow factor'. I know collectors don't really look for the base in a product, but their base design has been really plain in titanium and lots of other products. But lately panini has given upperdeck a run for their money in hockey.

I have also been watching breaks of rookie anthology onn CNC blogtv and i love the product heading out for a box now. :D

  33. Panini has totally stepped up their game compared to last year. They used less foil on their cards, clean base design, you get great vaule when buying boxes, better products, titanium and anthology are great products with a hit/insert in every pack, overall I am very impressed with Panini This year and I hope they keep coming up with great new ideas for up coming boxes. Love reading your blog Luke keep up the great work!

  34. I think overall Panini has really stepped up their games, and like you said might overcome my love of upper deck. I'm not saying I don't like upper deck as much as Panini. It just that upper deck hasn't done enough the last couple of years to compare to Panini. I think their ideas of making products like the rookie anthology is really awesome. Their prices are a bit cheaper then some of upper deck products and yes, sometimes even more appealing. Overall, I think Panini is on the road to victory.

luke i think panini really stepped up their game, i like how their now making products with more hits in them for a little cheaper price. I also like their card designs alot like the draft year card from rookie anthology. although there is one thing that i dont like. That is that in rookie anthology they have pinnacle, luxury suite, and others. see if i buy rookie anthology i want rookie anthology not pinnacle or luxury suite. But see thats just me, but overall i think panini is really stepping up there game.

I think panini is stepping up their game like if you put titanium vs sp game used titanium wins,,their starting to do things right enough hits a couple ok hits and a good one per box and lower numbers less stuff numbered way to go panini (by the way contender= favourite product of the year

i think panini has been putting cards of more value and boxes that are more consistant in good hits compared to a box full of players that arent worth anything. dominion titanium and anthology are products that people like because the hits are of better players and the desighn is eye catching. thank you for another amazing contest.

  39. I do like the fact Panini decided to add on to the tried and true sets (while depressing the set collectors) and made this set have a TON of variety with all of the rookie updates on TOP of the Rookie Anthology hits themselves.
I don't wish this to be a yearly release (the market is already flooded with rookies as it is), but every so often would definitely add a nice jump for all collectors who collect a late rookie and wish they had more cards.

PS. Nice hit on the Connolly. It's an SP.

  42. I like Panini a bit better. What I like about Panini is there Base it looks better then Upper decks base, Upper Deck's base is sort of boring they sometimes use the same base from other years but change it up a little bit, and thats why I like Panini a bit better. Thats not I like about Panini I like there inserts to. So I think that Panini is really stepping it up.

Me being someone who likes to buy alot of seperate packs, i like to see interesting base cards because i seem to get alot of them. i really like the look of the base cards and can't wait to pick some up myself. Great reveiw!

  44. Nice Rookie Rivalries!

I'd say out of of the last three releases I'd rank them

    - Rookie Anthology
    - Contenders
    - Titanium

It might have just been a weak box but Titanium just never won me over. The base cards are a bit weak.

Contenders is not high value, but top to bottom I like the designs, and on-card autos are always a winner. IMO best base cards of the 3.

I like Rookie Anthologies mixed bag lucky dip of hits, really adds some nice variation when busting a box. Base cards are also nice and classy, though the back is a bit sparse.

  46. For the first time since I have been collecting I have been enjoying Panini products much more than Upperdecks! This year they have stepped up their game by making the cards look really modern and nice looking. The biggest thing I think they are doing right though, is the fact they are really giving the consumer a good bang for their buck with what they get inside! In products like Titanium and Rookie Anthology its not impossible to get a good hit!

  47. i totally agree, seems like panini is really listening to what the collectors want. changing sub sets and reinventing the card designs. if they keep it up i dont see why they couldnt compete and earn the same respect that ud gets. i also believe panini has much better customer service compared to ud so thats just one more thing that they have going over ud.

  49. I think that if panini stepped his products in USA and Canada, it's because of their success in Europe. I'm a big fan of football (soccer), in Europe, Panini is THE company for football cards. One of their biggest products, if it's not the biggest, is futera, futera is a really nice product and it has some very nice cards. It's better than The Cup or Dominion but Panini doesn't only do futera, they do the high majority of all football cards in Europe again. When panini tried to go in America, they build a kind of second company, panini america, they realized that UD was a lot better than them, in america. Panini decided to invest a lot more in panini america than panini (europe), that gave them a big advantage. Than, the first product of the new panini america way was panini dominion. They put a lot of money in this and it was the start of there big step. After, they got out a lot of new products, to compete with UD's one. For example, certified vs artifacts, rookie anthology vs SPx, dominion vs the cup... They found what wasn't perfect in the UD products to ameliorate what they'll do. The biggest amelioration I saw is the base card design, in rookie anthology, they are amazing and in Titanium too. After this, they tried to compete with UD by the hits, on this side, some products are really on top (dominion, rookie anthology, titanium) but some other are not so good (certified). In short, Panini tried to make the same products than UD but by ameliorate them. In some case, they did a wonderful job, titanium and rookie anthology are the proof and I think next year, certified would be better and all their products that were not enough good to compete against UD's one.
